Digital Storytelling (imovie): Virtual Field Trip to The Columbus Zoo
Like the other emergent technologies discussed, digital video can provide opportunities for improved learning and understanding of the material at hand. Desktop movies created through programs such as MovieMaker or iMovie have the ability to bring lessons to life! Desktop movies can be about any educational topic. Teachers can share information with their students, teach mini lessons, share best classroom practices with their peers, document professional growth, and more. Students can create high-quality presentations and video reports, demonstrate their understanding of concepts learned in the classroom, summarize field trips taken, depict their learning of current events.
I picked iMovie to create my virtual field trip (movie) My movie is was created as a virtual field trip to The Columbus Zoo. Some educational programs do not always have the funding to take children out on field trips so why not do the next best thing. I showed real animals, facts and pictures that are all based on The Columbus Zoo (doing research on the Columbus Zoo web site). I included sounds and voice overs that go along with the images presented. Transitions and effects are included to further enhance the movie's visual appeal. And credits are properly given. I then uploaded this desktop movie to YouTube, which can be viewed on the video picture link above.
